Job Title: Senior Mechanical & Electrical Engineer

Location: On-site (Factory & Workshop) in Addis Ababa around Bethel

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Senior Mechanical & Electrical Engineer to oversee the installation, operational efficiency, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of production machinery and facility infrastructure across our factory and technical workshop.

The ideal candidate will bridge electro-mechanical discipline gaps, ensuring minimal operational downtime, strict compliance with safety standards, and optimal performance of all plant equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance

  • Lead planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and corrective repair programs for all industrial machinery, production lines, and workshop tooling.

  • Diagnose complex electrical wiring, power distribution, panel controls (PLC/VFD systems), and mechanical components (gearboxes, motors, hydraulics, pneumatic systems).

  • Supervise equipment installation, testing, commissioning, and retrofitting projects.

Workshop & Operational Management

  • Manage daily technical workshop tasks, custom fabrication, and mechanical repairs.

  • Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) and routine maintenance schedules to reduce machine downtime.

  • Source replacement spare parts, assess technical specifications, and manage stock inventories for critical operational tools and machinery parts.

Quality, Safety & Leadership

  • Enforce occupational safety, health, and environmental standards across the plant floor and workshop.

  • Supervise, mentor, and direct junior maintenance technicians, electricians, and mechanics.

  • Prepare root-cause analysis reports on equipment failure and implement continuous improvement initiatives to increase overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related industrial discipline.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5–8 years of direct industrial/factory maintenance experience, with at least 2–3 years in a senior or lead supervisory capacity.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Demonstrated expertise in both mechanical systems (hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmission, drive systems) and industrial electronics (control panels, 3-phase systems, motor controls).

    • Hands-on familiarity with PLC programming/troubleshooting and electrical schematics reading is highly desirable.

    • Proficient in using workshop tools, diagnostic instruments, and mechanical repair techniques.

  • Competencies: Strong problem-solving aptitude, leadership abilities, and capacity to work under pressure during critical breakdowns.
