Overview

To ensure that all prescribed duties are carried out in preparation for a blast, performing blast and concluding post blasting tasks, in line with all statutory, legal and Maxam HSE requirements. Ensure that all excess accessories after the blast are recorded and to be destroyed according to relevant mine standards at a place designated by the Mine Manager.

Duties

Ensure that the correct accessories necessary to carry out the blasting assignment are drawn from the magazine once the blast design / accessory is received where applicable. Ensure that all tasks necessary for preparing the blast are carried out in accordance with statutory/legal/Maxam requirements, including priming, pumping, stemming and timing design, as well as the HSE requirements.

Approves the blasting after ensuring the safety of the area and that all the required pre-blast procedures have been carried out correctly. Ensure that the required inspections are made.

Responsible for declaring the area safe after the blast. Ensure that the necessary administration and reporting are completed. Supervises the work of blasting assistants and MMU while in blast pattern.

Deals with unacceptable behavior and escalates serious offences to Supervisor. Allocates relevant housekeeping tasks to the blasting team and ensures completion thereon.

Diploma and above in mining and related fields

Blasting Ticket / License / Permit

Magazine Master Certificate (

Experience

2 years demonstrated blasting /assistance experience

3 years demonstrated experience in mining / explosive environment
